Question 1 of 5
A candidate receives an ANCC approval email with an Eligibility ID but has no appointment confirmation. What still needs to happen?
Show answer and explanation for question 1
Correct answer: B. Use the Eligibility ID to schedule and confirm an actual testing appointment
Authorization and an appointment are different. Prometric uses the Eligibility ID from the approval email for scheduling.
Why the other answers are less appropriate
- A. Arrive at any Prometric center during the testing window: An authorization does not reserve a workstation.
- C. Wait for ANCC to assign a test center automatically: Do not assume that receiving approval has booked a location or time.
- D. Treat the approval email date as the examination date: An email’s date is not evidence of a scheduled examination.
Question 2 of 5
For a U.S. testing appointment, a candidate discovers the only identification they planned to bring has expired. What should they do before exam day?
Show answer and explanation for question 2
Correct answer: D. Arrange acceptable original, unexpired identification and verify the current requirements
ANCC requires acceptable identification. An expired document, copy, or authorization notice does not replace it.
Why the other answers are less appropriate
- A. Bring a clear photocopy of the expired ID: A copy does not correct expiration or meet the original-ID requirement.
- B. Use the Authorization to Test notice instead: Authorization is not an identification document.
- C. Ask a classmate to confirm their identity at check-in: A companion’s assurance does not substitute for required ID.
Question 3 of 5
A candidate reads that ANCC requires arrival at least 15 minutes before the appointment, while the guide suggests aiming for about 30 minutes. Which interpretation is best?
Show answer and explanation for question 3
Correct answer: A. Fifteen minutes is the published minimum; the larger buffer is a planning recommendation, subject to current appointment instructions
Separate the required arrival time from a practical buffer. Plan for parking and entry, and follow the current appointment instructions.
Why the other answers are less appropriate
- B. Thirty minutes is a universal ANCC rule and 15 minutes is always too late: The recommendation should not be mislabeled as the published minimum.
- C. Any arrival before the exam start is sufficient: This overlooks the advance-arrival requirement.
- D. The 15-minute minimum includes the drive and parking time: Travel time does not count as arrival at the center.
Question 4 of 5
During the ANCC exam, a candidate needs a routine restroom break and has no special break accommodation. What should they expect?
Show answer and explanation for question 4
Correct answer: C. They follow staff exit and re-entry procedures, and the exam clock continues
Routine breaks do not add testing time. Follow the center’s procedures and account for re-entry when pacing.
Why the other answers are less appropriate
- A. The clock pauses as soon as they stand up: Leaving the seat does not pause the testing clock.
- B. The break is allowed only after the last question: A routine break need not wait until all questions are complete.
- D. The time spent outside is automatically restored afterward: Routine break time is not automatically returned.
Question 5 of 5
A candidate wants to learn how highlighting, striking out options, and marking questions work before the exam. Which resource best fits that purpose?
Show answer and explanation for question 5
Correct answer: B. The official tutorial linked from Prometric’s ANCC examination page
Prometric’s ANCC page links the Surpass tutorial for navigation practice. Use it to learn the interface before testing.
Why the other answers are less appropriate
- A. A recalled-question discussion group: Recalled confidential questions are neither appropriate nor necessary for learning controls.
- C. A different exam sponsor’s software guide: A different sponsor may use different settings or software.
- D. An unofficial claim that all Prometric interfaces are identical: A general assumption is less useful than the program-specific resource.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need two forms of ID for every ANCC appointment?
Not as a blanket rule. Requirements depend on the identification presented and testing location. Review ANCC’s current handbook and your appointment instructions.
Can this walkthrough replace my appointment instructions?
